My Racist Family #1
This is reminding me of a moment with my family over the winter holiday where my cousin’s husband told a really racist story and everyone (aside from me and the husband) totally agreed and was completely outraged at.
He apparently lives down the street from a cuban grocery where they apparently charge full price to gringos and talking about how they felt the shop owners were discriminating against them. I was so infuriated about their outrage and the claim of discrimination that I had to get up and leave the room to prevent myself from smacking some people in a violent outburst of pure rage.
Those shop owners live with racism every day and they are giving their friends a little discount, they aren’t obligated to give you one too— and they sure as hell have the right to speak their language in your presence even if you can’t understand it.
In short, my (white) family thinks they are being discriminated against by people of color; “reverse racism” does not exist./end rant
